The Berkshires are the highlands of Massachusetts a place where mountains rise up and there are rushing rivers, waterfalls and some wonderful hiking.

One hike takes us along the Appalachian trail to a mountain top viewpoint where, on a clear day, you can see four states, New York, Connecticut, Vermont and the whole expanse of the Berkshires! Another follows the wide lazy Housatonic River as it meanders across the valley by the same name. On this trail in May we saw more than 50 species of wildflowers! There are also waterfalls, rocky ledges (reputed to be Indian sacrifice sites) and deep quiet woodlands to explore.

Our base for the trip is the 18th century Red Lion Inn in the center of the picturesque village of Stockbridge (home to the Norman Rockwell Museum). For over two centuries this renowned, antique-filled inn has welcomed guests with old-fashioned charm and a longstanding tradition of New England hospitality.

Our summer trips also include an evening concert on the lawns of world famous Tanglewood (summer home of the Boston Symphony). Weekend trips begin with dinner on Friday and end after hiking and lunch on Monday (except where noted).
