The Berkshires/Tanglewood Weekends

The Berkshires are the highlands of Massachusetts, a landscape of rushing rivers, scenic waterfalls and breathtaking mountains. A wealth of trails allow us to follow in the footsteps of some of New England’s most well known literary giants, Hawthorne, Melville and Thoreau.
One hike takes us up along the Appalachian Trail to a mountain top viewpoint where, on a clear day, you can see four states; New York, Connecticut, Vermont and the whole expanse of the Berkshires!

Another follows the wide lazy Housatonic River as it meanders across the valley by the same name. There are also waterfalls or rocky ledges (reputed to be Indian sacrifice sites) and deep quiet woodlands to explore.

Our base for the trip is the 18th century Red Lion Inn in the center of the picturesque village of Stockbridge (home to the Norman Rockwell Museum). For over two centuries this renowned, antique-filled inn has welcomed guests with old-fashioned charm and a longstanding tradition of New England hospitality.

Our summer trips also include an evening concert on the lawns of world famous Tanglewood (summer home of the Boston Symphony).
