Both lunches and dinners were above our expectations.
- Kim & Bryan Perkins, Findlay, OH

Tom and Dana were extremely knowledgeable on the region, its history and most of all the flora and fauna. Kind and humorous.
- Teri Silverstone, Chicago, IL

The vistas with ripe fall color were terrific! I really enjoyed the format: hiking during the day with adequate time to shower and rest before dinner. There are always very interesting co-hikers. This is my 8th tour with NEHH.

New England Hiking Holidays

Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina

North CarolinaOur 5-day North Carolina tour follows the route of the famous Blue Ridge Parkway and explores the many beautiful trails hidden just off this scenic highway.

Mount Mitchell, the highest peak in the east, is the backdrop for our excursions into the Blue Ridge mountains. Hiking options include an awe-inspiring hike up Grandfather Mountain, trails that lead through Linville Gorge, one of the most spectacular gorges in the east, and the more leisurely carriage routes that wind through Moses Cone Memorial Park. Our trips are timed to coincide with the spring wildflower displays and the colorful fall foliage.

We begin our trip at the elegant Gideon Ridge Inn in the fascinating little town of Blowing Rock. Views from the inn's stone terrace are endless, stretching out along the Blue Ridge and down to the piedmont below. From here we head on to the charming village of Valle Crucis. Valle Crucis is home to the famous (and tempting!) Mast General Store and the lovely Inn at Taylor House. This turn of the century farmhouse has been lovingly restored, and it is filled with beautiful antiques and art.

North CarolinaOur route then follows the backbone of the Appalachian mountain chain until we reach our last stop, the Archers Mountain Inn, perched on the slopes of Beech Mountain. Along the way we are treated to stunning views as we traverse, on foot, the unusual grassy "balds" that form the North Carolina/Tennessee border.

Trips begin with dinner Sunday and end after hiking and lunch Friday.
