The hikes were excellent. I particularly enjoyed Moraic Canyon & Wildrose Peak, oh, and Ubehebe Crater and the Stovepipe Sand Dunes. Glen and Tim were both great - so generous with their time and hearts. Truly terrific people.
- Liz MacDonnell, Portland, OR

As a single this trip was a perfect way to go traveling and meet others. I met many wonderful people. It was one of my best vacations.
- Jewel Shindler, Altadena, CA

Death Valley

New England Hiking Holidays - Death ValleyDeath Valley's name may sound daunting, but the scenery is unforgettable. Prepare yourself for a fascinating tour as we journey through 1.5 billion years of geologic history. Death Valley National Park is home to 400 wildlife species and the wind- and sand-sculpted canyons, alluvial fans and salt flats provide a backdrop for some of the most unique hikes you will ever experience.

Our trip begins in Las Vegas where the guides will meet you and take you away to the Furnace Creek Ranch and Resort, a lush oasis surrounded by an extraordinary
desert landscape.

Over the next 5 days we will experience a variety of hikes – sometimes doing two half-day hikes and sometimes an all-day hike in order to gain an overview of what the park has to offer. On the first day we will visit both Golden Canyon and the Stovepipe Sand Dunes – two very different but must-see landscapes in Death Valley. Day two will take us to Marble Canyon where the smooth canyon walls of the Narrows demonstrate the sheer power of water on rock. On our third day we will head up the east side of the valley to Fall Canyon, a completely different type of ‘slot’ canyon, named for its series of dry waterfalls. In the afternoon we will visit the Ubehebe Crater. You may think the crater floor looks close, but the optional hike back up on the volcanic scree will remind you to respect your surroundings! On our final full day we will hike to Wildrose Peak (9,064 ft.) gaining a bird’s eye view of the mysteriously beautiful world we have enjoyed for the past five days. Finally, no visit to the park is complete without a walk on the Badwater salt flats, the lowest point in the lower 48 states at 282 feet below sea level.

Trips begin with dinner on Sunday and end after hiking and lunch on Friday.

  • Canyons, alluvial fans, salt flats, and sand dunes
  • Spectacular geology
  • Fascinating human history
  • Elevations from 282 feet below sea level to 11,049 feet
