New England Hiking Holidays

New Hampshire White Mountain 5-day
5 Days in the beautiful White Mountains

New England Hikling Holidays - White MountainsA 5-day trip is really the best way to experience the wonderful hiking and hospitality to be found in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Our tour begins with two nights at the gracious Inn at Thorn Hill in Jackson. The inn is renowned for its fine dining, and is also a recipient of the prestigious 4 diamond award. Each room is uniquely decorated in Victorian or country decor.

From here we follow a route that leads through two impressive "notches" or gulfs to many favorite spots in the White Mountains. We hike along an old railroad bed, beside a rushing mountain stream, to a misty 200 foot waterfall, to secluded swimming holes and to lofty mountain peaks. Special treats include visits to the Appalachian Mountain Club's 'friendly huts' on the Appalachian Trail and a walk through the spectacular Flume Gorge.

Those looking for a challenge will find the breathtaking ridges of the White Mountains to be both rewarding and exciting. Those in search of gentler walking will find surprising grandeur along the lower trails.

New England Hiking Holidays - NHThe next two nights we will enjoy the spectacular Notchland Inn in Crawford Notch. This 1860s granite mansion occupies a magical location, surrounded by 750,000 acres of national forest. Romantic and spacious guest rooms with wood-burning fireplaces and renowned 5 course dinners complete the experience.

From here we head out to explore the vast network of trails in and around the famed Franconia Notch. " The Flume", Lonesome Lake and the Franconia Ridge are just a few examples of the diverse hiking options available. We will also take time to discover some of the trails that lead from the scenic Kancamaugus Highway before returning to the Thorn Hill for our last night. The final morning we are treated to two of the most spectacular rock ledges in the east.

The final day, adventurous hikers can take a winding trail to the top of both White Horse and Cathedral Ledges, while others explore the numerous rock pools and waterfalls of Diana's Bath before riding to the top for a last "picnic with a view" !

Trips begin with dinner Sunday and end after hiking and lunch on Friday.
