New England Hiking Holidays

Wyoming
Jackson Hole Wyoming Grand Teton National Park

When American explorers first described the beauty of Wyoming's jagged Teton Range and the abundance of elk in the area, few people believed them. Today, people still exclaim “unbelievable!” when they first see the crisp, dramatic peaks backed against clear skies. Rising more than a mile above the valley known as Jackson Hole, the summit of the Grand Teton stands 13,770 feet above sea level. A total of 12 peaks reaching above 12,000 feet in elevation support a dozen mountain glaciers. At the base of the range, several lakes mirror the mountains on calm days, doubling their prominence. In nearby meadows and ponds, elk, moose, bison and other wild animals as well as birds go about their lives untouched by humans.

Hiking on the trails we have chosen you’ll undertake moderate climbs on mountainous terrain and expansive vistas will reward your efforts. You’ll stand at the rims of soaring buttes and picnic in the soulful silence of mountain passes.

BuffaloIn the evenings you’ll settle into lodges with roaring fireplaces and western decor. Our home within Grand Teton National Park is The Jackson Lake Lodge, with its spectacular views across Lake Jackson to the skyline of the Tetons. Then in the “Wild West” town of Jackson, we find ourselves at The Trapper Inn, just 1 ½ blocks from the Historic Town Square where you can stroll on an old-time wooden sidewalk or dance the western swing all night at the famous Million Dollar Cowboy Bar.

Our hikes throughout the week will offer spectacular vistas of the Tetons as well as the other surrounding mountain ranges and valleys.  We will hike to magnificent lakes and passes in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, the Jed Smith Wilderness, the Gros Wilderness and the Teton Pass area.  Wyoming hiking coupleOur favorite day will take us to Goodwin Lake with an option to summit Jackson Peak at 10,741 feet!  As always, you will have the option of a longer and shorter version of each day’s hike to ensure your enjoyment.

We hope you choose to join us in Jackson Hole this summer and experience the splendid scenery, abundant wildlife viewing, and world-class hiking of the “Wild West”.
