Our guides made sure to engage everyone in conversation and to get to know them, to encouraged us to hike at our own pace, to drink, to rest. They remembered people’s special interest and pointed out relevant things to them. They did everything they could to ensure that we all had a great experience. I can’t say enough good things about them!

New England Hiking Holidays

Yosemite National Park
Yosemite Valley, Giant Sequoias and Tuolumne Meadows

New England Hiking Holidays - YosemiteYosemite National Park is a hiker's paradise. On our five-day tour we will visit all of the most important areas of this diverse park. After a pickup at the Fresno airport, we drive an hour and a half to the lovely Tenaya Lodge in Fish Camp, CA near the South entrance to the Park.

From our southern base we will head deep into the famous Mariposa Grove, one of the largest remaining groves of Giant Sequoia trees. Although not the tallest or the oldest trees on earth, giant sequoias are the largest living organism by total mass. They are a sight to behold!

Day two takes us to Glacier Point, Sentinel Dome and Taft Point and our first views of the spectacular Yosemite Valley from above. Sentinel Dome offers a 360 degree view including the Valley, El Capitan, Cloud's rest, and the Clark range. At Taft Point, we will look down through the "fissures" in the granite and see the Valley floor 3,000 feet below. After the hike to Glacier Point we will drop down into the Valley where we will check into the Yosemite Lodge, our home for the next three nights.

New England Hiking Holidays _ YosemiteFrom our base in the Valley, we will hike to either Vernal or Nevada Falls via the Mist Trail. This trail has been voted one of the most scenic trails in the U.S. and rightly so. Although the Merced River does not produce the dousing mist in September that it does in Spring (when raingear is mandatory to hike this trail!), this is an unforgettable hike up a trail that is an engineering feat!

A visit to Yosemite is not complete without spending time in Tuolumne Meadows. Tuolumne is the largest high alpine meadow in the Sierra Nevada. It is dotted with beautiful lakes and surrounded by large peaks that rise to over 13,000 feet. Today we will hike to our highest point of the week, visiting a chain of spectacular lakes at around 10,00 feet above sea level.

New England Hiking Holidays _ YosemiteOn our final day in the Park we will take a classic Valley hike around Mirror Lake before having lunch and saying our goodbyes to this memorable scenery. The trip begins with dinner on Sunday and ends after hiking and lunch on Friday.
